Made by leading international brand Rhino Rack, this SUP loader for NZ vehicles makes it easy to safely load your equipment onto your car’s roof, even if you’re travelling alone. All you need to do is set up the loader, lift one side of your board onto it and then use the loader as a pivot to load the other end onto your vehicle’s crossbars.

Then, just strap your load down using tie down straps and you’re good to go. It couldn’t be easier to get your gear up and ready for a great trip to the water.

Features

The Rhino Rack Universal Side Loader comes with clamps designed to suit all popular roof racks. With a convenient quick release strap included, it’s easy for you to get your board down from your roof rack and head off to hit the perfect wave.

The included support pole lets you hold up to 60kg of weight. Sounds like a heavy load to bear? It won’t be for your vehicle, with protective padding on the underside of the clamps keeping your roof safe and scratch-free.

Transporting Your SUP on a Roof Rack

SUPs can be large – so large, in fact, that simply throwing them into the back of your car and heading off to the waterfront is a no-go. That means that unless you want an inflatable board that you’re going to have to deflate and inflate every single time you travel, you’ll need a roof rack.

While our exceptional range of SUP car carriers will do most of the work for you, there’s a few tips and tricks to keep in mind to get the best performance out of them:

Place your board deck down and tail first. This will help decrease wind resistance, allowing for a more effective, safer and comfortable drive – especially if you’re hitting motorway speeds!

If you’re stacking multiple boards on top of one another, place the largest one at the bottom and work your way up in order of size, putting the smallest one on the top.

We recommend using straps to ensure that your SUP is safely held in place. If you’re doing so, you should add a twist in them to prevent the straps from flapping loudly in the wind and creating disruptive, unpleasant noise. While you’re doing so, make sure you check that they’re tight and that your board can’t shift around while on the road.

Another useful trick is to place your board with its tail to the front of the vehicle. That way, if your board happens to slide backward as you accelerate, its fin box or fins will catch against the strap, preventing damage – or worse – an accident.

What is Stand Up Paddle boarding?

Much like surfing, stand up paddle boarding originated in the waters off Hawai’i. It’s now one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, and New Zealand couldn’t be a better place to do it. With our country’s extensive, scenic coastline and stunning Pacific waters, this exciting outdoor sport is a great one to add to your list.

It’s not just a fantastic full body workout. Stand up paddleboarding is an excellent way to connect with the great outdoors, take in views you wouldn’t get anywhere else, and explore more of New Zealand’s stunning landscapes. This watersport is great for people of all ages and sizes.

But if you want to go stand up paddle boarding, you’re going to need a stand up paddle board – or SUP. And unless you live within a walking distance from the water’s edge, you’re going to need a way to transport it to those beautiful outdoor surroundings. This is especially the case if you have a large, solid, rigid or more expensive SUP that you want to keep in the best possible condition.

That’s where our SUP loaders come in. They’ll help you get your board onto your vehicle’s roof, where it will safely stay throughout your drive.

Tips on Loading your SUP

While you focus on getting your SUP protected from the elements, don’t forget to protect yourself, too. When picking up your board – or any heavy object – bend with your knees and make sure your back is straight. That will protect your back and spine.

Strong winds aren’t uncommon near large bodies of water, but they might lead to your board moving and potentially hitting you – or someone or something else – as you pick it up. Prepare for heavy wind by pointing your board into the wind, where possible, and holding it on the downwind side of your body.

With an SUP loader in NZ, you’ll be able to get your board onto your roof racks seamlessly, even if you’re travelling by yourself. That way, you’ll be able to avoid any damage to your expensive board. Forget worrying about broken parts – spend your valuable time and money exploring more travel options or touring new waters.

Say goodbye to your travel worries and focus on enjoying your time on the water. If you would like more information about our SUP loaders or other roof rack products, we’re here to help.
